At the time, it was New Zealand’s largest grid connected lithium-ion battery. The purpose of the project is to trial demand response, load shifting, spot market participation and alternative tariff structures from the perspective of a distribution lines company.

Alpine Energy is utilising the power of developed relationships and expertise within the market to undertake this trial. EMC provided the BESS solution and is enhancing the technology for the future in partnership with Infratec as a Strategic Alliance partner. EMC have provided commercial and utility scale PV, Battery and Mini Grid solutions within the Australian market and have recently been purchased by Carnegie Clean Energy.

Simply Energy has been engaged in the trial to test how battery storage can participate in New Zealand’s spot market. Simply is providing the necessary market feed and forecasting which in the future can be further developed to enhance automation systems for the future.
